InspiresMe Week

Friday, 8th February 2013 saw myself (Clayre, PA to Principal) and VP, Curriculum Paul Phillips (representing for the Principal) heading down to the City and all the way up to the 9th (or was it the 19th) floor of City Hall for “InspiresMe Week”.

As I exited the lift with Mr Phillips tea and biscuits were on display and mingling was in order.

Students from Aylward, Nightingale and Bexleyheath who had experienced ”working life” for a week within a range of businesses gave presentations on business ideas to a panel of judges which included young social entrepreneur - Samuel Kasumu, Joan Deslandes - LAET Board Member and Jamie Hopkins - CEO of Workspace.

At the end of the event Mayor, Boris Johnson graced us with his presence and gave words of encouragement to the youths.  Jane Willis, Principal at Nightingale Academy then gave a brief speech thanking Mayor, Johnson for his involvement with Enfield Academies, Nightingale and Aylward.

Aylward student, Andre Mitchell who had been working at City Hall was praised by Pauline Daniyan (Senior Manager, Youth and Academies) for his work and time at City Hall.

Hosted by Munira Mirza, Mayoral Advisor (Education and Culture) and welcomed by the sounds of the Nightingale Academy Choir who sang again at the interval and then at the end, it was nice to hear youngsters speak, show personality and want to inspire the audience.

It was clearly picture-time as 4.20pm approached and many took their opportunity before the Mayor was whisked away by his right-hand man.
