Training School

We’re very proud of all the people that come to Aylward to train to become teachers. We take our responsibility incredibly seriously, as they are the teachers of tomorrow. Through quality mentoring and a superb programme of support we aim for them all to gain qualified teacher status and secure jobs for the following year. We benefit hugely from this as we get to pick the best and sign them up to join our staff for the following year.

Overview of the programme

The PGCE programme at Aylward Academy aims to provide a high quality and coherent learning experience for student teachers (STs), acknowledging our responsibility to the teaching profession to produce newly qualified teachers whose skills and attributes meet the TDA/QTS standards. In developing closer links with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the programme offers the opportunity for all staff members to develop their own professional learning, offering staff developmental opportunities in mentoring and coaching, and the opportunity to build on their expertise in subject knowledge and pedagogy.  For faculties it enables them to build capacity through the development of staff and as an aid for potential recruitment. Through careful planning and monitoring it also ensures that all our students receive their entitlement to a high quality learning environment.
